Millwall v Blackpool team line-ups: Matt Smith gets his reward for big role in EFL Cup tie win

Matt Smith has been rewarded for his impressive performance in Millwall’s midweek EFL Cup win with a starting place for today’s home game against Blackpool.

The big striker provided two assists for Murray Wallace in the 3-1 victory over Cambridge United on Tuesday. And he converted himself to open his account for the season.

Billy Mitchell, who did well at right wing-back in the tie, also retains his place.

The duo replace George Evans, who drops to the bench, and Mahlon Romeo, who does not make the matchday squad, from last weekend’s loss in Wales.

Both Millwall’s wins in the current campaign have come in the EFL Cup. They are looking to avoid a third successive Championship reverse after emerging pointless from fixtures against Fulham and Cardiff City.

Millwall: Bialkowski, M Wallace, M Wallace, Cooper, Ballard, B Mitchell, Kieftenbeld, Saville, Malone, J Wallace, Afobe, Smith. Subs: Long, Thompson, Bradshaw, Pearce, Mahoney, Evans, A Mitchell.

Blackpool: Maxwell, Connolly, James, Yates, Anderson, Bowler, Dougall, Lavery, Ekpiteta, Keogh, Garbutt. Subs: Grimshaw, Stewart, Carey, Casey, Hamilton, Gretarsson, John-Jules.
