Injury setback for Charlton as Ryan Inniss and Ronnie Schwartz both sidelined for months

Charlton centre-back Ryan Inniss and striker Ronnie Schwartz have been ruled out for the next two months due to injury.

Former Crystal Palace defender Inniss has not featured since the 2-0 win over Crewe on August 28.

He missed 27 League One matches last season due to a quad problem. His minutes had been managed since he returned to the first-team fold – including a later introduction into the club’s pre-season friendly schedule.

Danish striker Schwartz has played just 12 minutes of football since Nigel Adkins replaced Lee Bowyer as Charlton manager. He did not even make the bench for seven of their final nine games. His last outing was as a substitute against AFC Wimbledon on March 20.

Charlton Athletic’s Ronnie Schwartz sees his penalty saved during the Sky Bet League One match at the Kassam Stadium, Oxford. Picture date: Saturday March 6, 2021.

“Ryan Inniss is going to be out for a couple of months, at least, with a thigh injury,” said Adkins. “And Ronnie Schwartz is going to be out for a couple of months with a calf injury.”

Alex Gilbey, Ben Purrington and Sean Clare are all back in training.

“It enhances the size of the squad,” said Adkins. “We’ve got a bigger group of players on the training ground and we’ve got a big run of fixtures coming up now to the next international break. We’ll see if that happens, whether anyone gets on the international scene either from Rotherham or ourselves.

“We’ve got a tough run of games Saturday-Tuesday, Saturday-Tuesday – all the players will be involved. Horses for courses sometimes with the opposition we’re playing against.”
