Josh Davison says Charlton’s draw with Pompey is a “good point” and predicts the Addicks will soon take off

Josh Davison says he sees Saturday’s draw with Portsmouth as a good point after the youngster bagged his first league goal of the season late on to rescue a share of the spoils.
The forward entered the fray from the bench at the same time Corey Blackett-Taylor inside the final ten minutes. The duo combined as Davison was gifted a tap in to square the score up at 2-2 with just two minutes of the 90 remaining.
Portsmouth had led inside the opening six minutes thanks to a long-range strike from Ronan Curtis. Sean Clare, himself a substitute, pulled Charlton back on terms just after the break. Marcus Harness had the visitors back in front on 72 minutes but the points were shared thanks to Davison’s late intervention.
Davison said: “Considering we went 2-1 down, it’s a good point to take. The boys reacted well to going down. I felt we could have probably for more from the game but a point is better than none.
“It’s my first one in front of our home fans [at the Covered End] which is always good to get. My first league goal this season, it’s good to get off the mark. Personally, it’s always good to get one. I’ve had to wait to get one but it just gives you the confidence to get more and more.
“Them goals are my favourite ones, a little back-post tap-in. When Corey gets the ball, he’s so quick one v one and so good as well, I just know to get in the box and it should come. He’s put me on a plate so I’m happy. It must be a defender’s nightmare, one v one against someone as quick as him. You can’t really stop that unless you foul him or you’ve doubled up. He’s a good threat to have.”
The point means the Addicks remaining flailing in the League One relegation zone, with just one win to their name after nine league games – but Davison expects the South Londoners to rise up the table.
“Look at the players we’ve got,” added the 22-year-old.
“Some of the names. Unbelievable talent for League One. I think once we get some good results going and we start hitting on all cylinders, we’ll just fly. So, we just need that first result. It might take a bit of luck but if we get that we’ll be off and running.”
