Whitgift School enjoy double success at Reading’s Madejski Stadium
Whitgift School celebrated national glory after winning the English Schools’ FA (ESFA) PlayStation U12 Boys Elite Schools’ Cup.
The Croydon school thrashed Northampton School For Boys 5-1 at Reading Madejski Stadium on May 22.
Whitgift collected their second trophy later the same day as they beat Kepier School from Durham 3-2 to win the ESFA PlayStation U14 Boys Elite Schools’ Cup.
They returned a day later but lost 3-2 in a closely-fought final of the ESFA PlayStation U14 Boys Schools’ Cup.
The finals were part of the PlayStation Schools’ Cup Festival, the culmination of the fifth season of the exciting grassroots partnership between PlayStation and the ESFA. Fifteen national football finals from U12-U15 secondary school age groups, featuring both boys’ and girls’ teams, took place across three days.
The partnership between PlayStation and ESFA started in September 2013, and has helped increase the engagement in competitive football for secondary school age categories. This season tournaments involved over 2,000 schools and 200,000 participants.
