Antiques Roadshow to film at historic palace this Sunday

BBC One’s Antiques Roadshow will be filming in the area this weekend.
The show, which is presented by Fiona Bruce, will roll into Eltham Palace in Greenwich on Sunday, June 10.
BBC producers are encouraging South Londoners to dust off their family heirlooms, raid their attics and dig out their car boot bargains to bring along for free advice and valuations.
Chris Small, English Heritage’s property manager at Eltham Palace, said: “We are so excited to be hosting BBC One’s Antiques Roadshow at Eltham Palace.
“I can’t wait to see what hidden treasures visitors will bring along on the day.”
Eltham, a moated mediaeval palace, was once the childhood home of Henry VIII.
The property was transformed into a showpiece of art deco design in the 1930s by millionaire owners Stephen and Virginia Courtauld.
The property is now in the care of English Heritage and has 19 acres of gardens, which received gold standard at the London in Bloom Awards 2017.
Last year, the programme celebrated its fourth decade.
Ms Bruce, who is in her 11th series as presenter, said:
“Can this year be even better than our last?
“We’ll have to go some way to top the most valuable Faberge ever seen on the programme, a correction to Darwin’s theory of evolution by the man himself, and one of the best collections of showbusiness memorabilia ever seen by our experts.
“But I am confident we’ll do it and the thousands of people that come to see us will pull some extraordinary things out of their bags.”
The Antiques Roadshow usually attracts around 3,000 people and each show has nearly six million viewers, according to the BBC.
Robert Murphy, series producer said: “We are looking forward to welcoming thousands of visitors when we bring Antiques Roadshow to Eltham Palace and Gardens.
“It’s a stunning backdrop for a Sunday show and we’d love to see cherished objects and hear personal stories from the people of south-east London and beyond.
“It’s a great free, family day out and you can see how we make one of BBC One’s most popular programmes.
“You never know what will be the special object and our team of experts look forward to helping visitors discover the story of their item’s past.”
In the past 40 years there have been 804 programmes, made at 585 different venues.
Around 10 million objects have been brought to be valued and of those around 24,000 items have been filmed.
Doors on Sunday will open at 9.30am and close at 4.30pm.
