‘Natural leader’ – Millwall striker backs Lions legend Steve Morison to make a success of caretaker spell at Cardiff City

Tom Bradshaw has tipped Steve Morison to be a hit at Millwall’s Championship rivals Cardiff City after the former Lions man was named as the club’s caretaker boss this week.

Mick McCarthy, another ex-Millwall player and manager, was dismissed by the Bluebirds after overseeing a club record eight consecutive defeats.

Morison, who is in charge of Cardiff’s U23 side, has been handed the reigns whilst the club’s hierarchy ponder their next move.

And with Morison expected to remain in charge for Cardiff’s next few games leading into the international break, Bradshaw has backed his former team-mate to be a success after admitting the 38-year-old has always been “a natural leader”.

“Definitely, in my first year he was gaining some experience in the U23s doing some coaching sessions,” said Bradshaw, who arrived at the Den the season before Morison departed SE16.

“Naturally, he’s a leader anyway, so it hasn’t surprised me that he’s transitioned those skills into a coaching career and now hopefully a management one too.

“He’s obviously done pretty well managing their U23s to be given the caretaker manager role and at the end of the day, you see a lot of the time that people who do well in that caretaker position end up being given the job. He’s a natural leader and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he took the chance he’s given.

“Good luck to him and I’m sure he’ll do great.”
