Millwall assistant boss asked about striker transfer plans ahead of January window
Millwall assistant boss Adam Barrett refused to talk up any potential January transfers when quizzed on the club’s goal tally so far this term – although he did admit that they are “always looking to improve”.
The Lions have managed just 16 goals in their 16 league games this season, averaging a strike a game.
Benik Afobe’s winning goal against Reading was the Stoke loanee’s third strike of the season. Only Jed Wallace, with five goals, has bettered that tally this term, with fellow strikers Tom Bradshaw and Matt Smith both on two strikes apiece.
Despite the Lions lack of goals, it remains to be seen if further attacking reinforcements will be a priority in the New Year.
“We know we haven’t scored as many goals as we would have liked,” conceded Barrett when discussing the subject after the Reading game.
“The second-half performance [against Reading], if we can continue in that vein, I mean the amount of chances that we created we should have been a couple of goals to the good.
“We’re always looking to improve of course. We’re in a really good position and we’re delighted with where we are at the moment, but we can play better. I don’t think we’ve really hit top form this season so far, we’ve done it in patches. But we’re in a really good position, so we’re pleased, and we’re looking to improve all the time.”
What has happened to the manager answering questions from the media – why is it being left to Adam Barrett?
