‘I want to see a full Valley’ – Charlton owner Thomas Sandgaard aims for capacity home crowd

Thomas Sandgaard is hoping to have a sellout the home section of The Valley for Charlton’s home game against Plymouth – with season-ticket holders able to bring along three friends or family free of charge.

The US-based Danish businessman has spoken previously about wanting to see the South London club at maximum capacity.

Their highest attendance this season was 17,639 for the League One opener against Sheffield Wednesday.

But Charlton launched their Fill The Valley campaign on Friday. They have 9,888 season-ticket holders and a capacity of just more than 23,000.

“On November 20 we play against the current number one team, Plymouth,” Sandgaard told the club’s official website. “I want to make sure we have every seat filled.

“I’m hopeful that for the rest of the season, and more seasons to come, we’ll have a full stadium.

“We have a squad and playing style where everything is gelling together so that we keep playing better and better, more exciting football. That is the part I can contribute to. But the fans are the driving force behind the club. This is probably one of the most important intiatives we will work on.

“I’ve always been very stubborn and tenacious about things I want. I can’t wait to see everybody in there.

“I’ve just had my one year anniversary of owning the club and it has so much potential. We are now on a journey to be playing the best teams in the world – it’s going to take us a long time to get there.

“We are off to a slow start after the first year but we are now beginning to be playing really exciting football and it’s a great experience to see the lads, whether they are winning at Sunderland or our home games.

“The most important thing for me is the fans and that we fill The Valley with as many people as we can possibly get in there. Let’s ignore the away stand. But, other than that, I want a full stadium. This is the next of many initiatives to come here over the next many years.”
