Jayden Stockley ban is upheld – but Charlton get major boost on Akin Famewo

Jayden Stockley will be suspended for the next three matches after his red card at Burton was upheld – but Charlton will be able to call upon centre-back Akin Famewo for today’s home game against Plymouth.

The Addicks had appealed centre-forward Stockley’s sending off against the Brewers. The frontman and former Charlton defender Deji Oshilaja were both dismissed by referee Trevor Kettle for their tangle in the penalty area.

Famewo was also due to sit out this weekend after collecting a fifth booking of the campaign in last Saturday’s match. But the caution – for time-wasting – has been transferred to Ben Purrington, who initially picked up the ball for a throw in.

Charlton caretaker boss Johnnie Jackson said: “It’s good and bad news. I’m disappointed we’re going to be without Jayden for three games but at least they did the right thing on Akin. He didn’t deserve a booking and we certainly didn’t deserve to have both missing. That would have been harsh.

“Everyone else is great apart from the long-termers. Pape Souare trained from Thursday and he will be available. The two international boys have come back with no issues.”

Stockley will also be unavailable for the Tuesday night fixture at Morecambe as well as next weekend’s trip to Shrewsbury Town.

  • All these professional appeal panels really are a joke. To have upheld the appeal would have amounted to them saying their official was wrong which they will rarely concede. By nature they simply cannot be impartial rather like a Magistrates Court who simply uphold the law irrespective of the merits of the defendants case. Most statute is enacted to protect the establishment not the individual and the appeals panels are part of that establishment
