Charlton Athletic caretaker boss provides selection update ahead of Morecambe match

Jonathan Leko has resumed full training and is part of Charlton Athletic’s squad that has travelled for tomorrow night’s League One match at Morecambe.

The on-loan Birmingham City attacker had been out with a hip injury.

The Addicks look set to be missing club captain Jason Pearce after he was forced off early in the second half of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Plymouth with a knee injury.

Charlton are already without centre-backs Sam Lavelle (groin) and Ryan Inniss (thigh).

Chris Gunter replaced Pearce against Argyle and there could be a squad recall for Pape Souare.

“He only trained on the Thursday and we thought it was a bit too soon to involve him,” said Charlton caretaker boss Jackson. “We’ll have a look and see who feels fresh or doesn’t feel fresh, along with any niggles.

“Leko is available and he will travel.”

Nathan Harness was on the bench at the weekend instead of the more experienced Stephen Henderson.

“Hendo took a blow to the head on Friday,” said Jackson. “It was a nasty one to the face. He has to go through the concussion protocol and he won’t be available until the weekend.

“Obviously if Pearcey is out then we are depleted at the back. We keep losing defenders, so we’re going to have to juggle that area. You saw the lads put in a monumental effort against Plymouth and it’s about seeing who I’ve got that is capable of going again, to bring that level again.

“I want to reward people because they are doing well but at the same time but at the same time we need to balance that up, if it’s felt we need to freshen it up. Sometimes you need to look people in the eye when you ask if they are ready to go again. We haven’t got too many options because a suspension and injuries narrows the squad.”
