Bournemouth boss Scott Parker has praise for Millwall after 1-1 draw at The Den

Bournemouth manager Scott Parker reckoned Millwall looked the most likely team to win in last night’s 1-1 draw.

And the Cherries boss admitted his side were “holding on” towards the end of the match at The Den.

Benik Afobe’s second-half strike cancelled out Dominic Solanke’s opener, which means the South London club stay 10th in the Championship.

Parker said: “In the end it was a big point for us. There was only one team towards the end that looked like they were going to win the game – and it wasn’t us. Overall it’s a well-earned point and we’ll look back on it and think it’s a good point gained.

“We started the game well. Millwall came right out of the blocks, and we had to weather a little bit. We caused them some problems, got our noses in front. The second half was not the way we would’ve liked it.

“We were holding on for large parts of the second half. We came out second half and had a couple of moments on the break, but then after that we really struggled. They went from back to front pretty direct. Full credit to them, they caused us a lot of problems.

“The goal is poor on our behalf. One long ball from 40 yards, we don’t challenge the first one, they flick it on, covering positions were not great. There was a lot there that we need to improve on.

“The game becomes so frantic that when you need to be brave and take that commitment to play and we just struggled in that really.

“We just didn’t show ourselves today. Full credit to Millwall for that. That wasn’t just down to us playing poorly, they did what they did very well and they caused us problems.”
