Charlton set for multi-million windfall if Liverpool move for Burnley shotstopper

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Nick Pope’s Burnley future could have major ramifications for Charlton – who will be due a multi-million pound windfall if he moves this summer.

The Clarets keeper is away with England at the World Cup but is being linked with an £18million transfer to Liverpool.

The South London Press understands that Charlton inserted a sell-on clause when Pope  joined Burnley in July 2016.

That is standard business practice but we have also been told that the figure due is more than 20 per cent.

If Pope were to go for the price mooted, the deal would see comfortably over £3m heading the way of the Addicks.

That would be a major financial boost for unpopular Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet – especially at a time when he is looking to slash spending and bring income in.

The Belgian has already sold Ezri Konsa to Brentford, with the talk being that it was one up-front payment.

Fellow centre-back Harry Lennon is expected to join Southend United for £50,000, with that paid as one lump sum.
