Charlton boss on a realistic goal target for Jayden Stockley this season

Johnnie Jackson has set a goal target for Jayden Stockley to aim for and has praised the Charlton Athletic striker for delivering big time since returning from his suspension.

The forward has scored 14 goals in the 2021-22 campaign – netting 12 of those in the last 12 matches.

Stockley pounced for the opener in the 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town on Tuesday night. He has been on the scoresheet in every fixture since returning from a three-game ban for his dismissal at Burton Albion.

“Jayden has played really well and is in hot goalscoring form,” Jackson told the South London Press. “Him and Conor [Washington] have got a really good partnership going on there.

“They have got a real understanding of how each other plays and complement each other.

“We missed Jayden when he was out, especially the two away games. You realise what he brings to the team when he is not there – in both boxes.

“Since he has come back inot the team he has been excellent. Maybe he felt he needed to step up and help his mates because they missed him over that period. He has definitely done that and hopefully can continue his run of form.”

Asked how many goals was a realistic haul for the whole season, Jackson replied: “He’s got to be thinking 25.”
