‘It’s a real threat’ – Charlton caretaker boss Johnnie Jackson on Covid-19 outbreaks forcing postponements

Johnnie Jackson has conceded there is “a real threat” that Charlton Athletic’s fixtures could be affected by the national spike in Covid-19 cases.

There have been a spate of matches postponed in recent days with South London rivals Millwall seeing their Championship fixture at The Den against Preston called off due to a significant number of positive tests in the Lions camp.

Charlton’s trip to Plymouth Argyle is still on but Jackson knows that the situation is likely to only become more severe as the virus continues to spread.

“It’s obviously a real threat, isn’t it? Especially in London – we’ve seen games called off already,” the Addicks caretaker boss told the South London Press. “Tottenham had quite a lot of cases and called their game off. Millwall did the same for the weekend.

“It’s something we have got to take seriously. We’ve put some mitigation in place just to try and protect everyone and avoid that scenario. We’ve done everything we can…but it can still happen.

“We’re being diligent and doing everything we can to avoid that situation. We don’t want to get games called off because our schedule is tight as it is, especially over Christmas and January. Any games that are kicked down the road wouldn’t be ideal for us. But it’s looking more and more likely that could happen.”
