Nearly all hospitalised Covid cases in the autumn were unvaccinated

By Tara O’Connor, Local Democracy Reporter

Nearly all coronavirus patients in hospitals across South London over the autumn were unvaccinated, it has been warned.

Now a leading local GP is urging Londoners to get their booster jabs as soon as possible.

The South West London Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said 97 per cent of adults ending up in hospital with Covid-19 in October and November had not received two doses and a booster of the vaccination.

This was the case at St George’s, Kingston, Croydon University, Epsom and St Helier hospitals.

They said that having the three jabs makes it eight times less likely people will get seriously ill with coronavirus.

Dr Nicola Jones, local GP and clinical lead for South West London’s vaccination programme, said: “These figures highlight the importance of Covid-19 vaccinations and, with Omicron cases now rising, I would urge everyone not to delay having their booster to top up their immunity and help keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

“It is also a reminder that it is never late too late to get vaccinated. The offer from the NHS is evergreen, so please do not hesitate to come forward to give yourself as much protection as possible – we’re making it as easy as we can to get jabbed with a host of clinics across south west London.”

The data has been collected by the South West London Infection, Prevention and Control Forum.
