Plymouth boss Schumacher gives his verdict on 1-0 win over Charlton

Plymouth Argyle manager Steven Schumacher has given his verdict on their 1-0 win over Charlton yesterday.

Kieran Agard’s finish before half-time proved to be the decisive moment at Home Park.

It meant that the Addicks went home pointless in their first match since Johnnie Jackson was appointed permanent boss.

Schumacher is also newly-installed at Argyle, stepping up after Ryan Lowe moved on to Preston North End.

Schumacher said: “It feels great. I’m pleased that the players can go and get that first win. I know it’s my first game in charge but really that’s not important.

“The players have had a tough run of fixtures lately and we haven’t been on the right end of results but today they got the three points in the end. Probably didn’t deserve to be ahead at half-time but second half we were the better team, just edged it.

“We looked a bit nervy in the first 15 minutes and I just asked them to relax a little bit at half-time.

“Charlton had some chances and Mike [Cooper] made a couple of big saves too, but we didn’t impose ourselves on the game.

“In the second half we could play the game in their half and created some really big opportunities ourselves.

“We think Michael is one of the best goalkeepers in the league, he’s made a couple of errors of late and the defence in general haven’t been as solid as they were at the start of the season.

“If they keep playing like they did today and stick together, help each other out and encourage each other, we are going to get more results like that.”
