Charlton Athletic looking to strengthen striker options in January transfer window

Charlton Athletic look set to try and strengthen their striking options in the January transfer window.

The Addicks badly missed Jayden Stockley today as they lost 1-0 at home to Wycombe Wanderers.

Stockley missed out due to a hip injury. Josh Davison started in his place but was replaced by Jonathan Leko at the break, with the South Londoners struggling to put a dent in the visitors in the first period in SE7.

Asked about whether the display underlined Charlton’s need to bring in another forward this month, Jackson replied: “We’re looking across the whole area of the team, where we can strengthen. When I’m looking to make changes in games, you want alternatives that you feel can come on, impact it and win you games.

“The obvious one is goals, isn’t it? So you’re always going to look at those top areas.

“When Jayden or Conor are missing from the team it changes us quite dramatically at the minute. It’s an area we need to look at and some viable alternatives perhaps.”

Jackson brought on centre-back Ryan Inniss in the closing stages today – but to play up top.

The former Crystal Palace centre-back saw a header hooked away from the Wycombe goal-line by Josh Scowen.

Jackson said: “I knew there’d be a little bit of time added on. It’s not my style and the way my team wants to play, but at the end of a game when you are chasing he can come on and be a threat there, just with his physical presence. And he was.

“He’s nearly popped up right at the end with an equaliser.

“That’s something I thought about in game that we might utilise if we were still chasing.”

Charlton are 14 points behind sixth-placed Plymouth Argyle after successive League One losses.

Jackson said: “It’s just frustration that we’ve lost a game of football today – and we lost one last week. My focus turns to the two cup games.

“I don’t stare at the league table and think about gaps, or things like that. I think about the next game. What we need to do to try and win it. If we win enough it will take us where we want to go – if not we’ll fall short.

“We’re coming from a long way behind, aren’t we? It was always going to be a difficult task.”
