West Ham manager David Moyes makes admission after tense finale at Crystal Palace

David Moyes admitted that West Ham United were pushed all the way in their 3-2 victory at Crystal Palace yesterday.

The east Londoners were three goals up at half-time, but late goals from Odsonne Edouard and Michael Olise made it a tense finale in SE25.

Moyes said: “Too close for comfort. It wasn’t comfortable from the first minute, and it certainly wasn’t comfortable up to the 95th minute.

“This time of the year, you take what you get. I have to praise the players, we scored three goals tonight [Saturday] and four at Watford. We have to praise them greatly for how they’ve done in those two games.

“I’m thrilled with us getting this result. I’ve told the players, I think we set really high standards at the start of the season and we need to get back to them.

“There’s small signs where you think it’s getting better, the goalscoring is coming back, we had a few games where we didn’t score away from home. We’re back to scoring away from home which is pleasing me.

“But we need to get back to being pretty mean and not allowing teams opportunities to get back into the game. We gave that opportunity to Palace today.

“We are having to score too many goals to win games. We had a period where we started again to get a few clean sheets but it’s something we’ve not been as good at this season.

“It will catch you out if you’re not careful. I’m well aware of it.”
