Crystal Palace boss asked about transfer links to Juventus midfielder Ramsey and Arsenal striker Nketiah

Patrick Vieira has commented on Crystal Palace being linked with Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey and Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

Wales international Ramsey has been mooted as a target for the Eagles before and seems surplus to requirements at the Serie A giants.

Palace are keen on landing Nketiah, who will be a free agent in the summer. The England U21 international has also attracted attention from Bayer Leverkusen.

Vieira, when asked about whether the South London club will try and land Ramsey, said: “When you look at his pedigree and experience, he would improve a lot of teams in the Premier League.

“I like the player. I like a lot of players. He is a terrific player and he can do well for a lot of teams in the Premier League.”

Vieira chuckled after he was asked for an update on their pursuit of Nketiah.

He said: “It is just the same as Aaron – there is not much to say about those players because for us what is really important is focusing on the players we have. We have players who are coming back from injuries and we want to give more game time.

“The two names you mention, they are good players – there is no doubt about it – but we are focusing on the game tomorrow and how we get through to the next round.

“With the chairman and Dougie, we’re always talking about how we can improve the squad and team. If there is a player we strongly believe can be a plus for the team we will think about it. But I always say I’m happy with the squad we have.

“We’re talking but it doesn’t mean we are going to do any business.”

St Etienne have been strongly linked with trying to take Jean-Philippe Mateta on loan. The French striker is a year into an 18-month temporary stay in SE25 from Mainz.

But Vieira played down the suggestion Mateta was about to leave Palace. He said: “Not that I’m aware of. He is a Palace player, he’s been training really well all week and he will be part of the group for the game tomorrow.”
