Millwall boss reacts to striker transfer link to Wigan

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has dismissed speculation linking Matt Smith with Wigan Athletic.

The big striker, 32, is out of contract at the end of this season.

Smith came off the bench in the second half of the Lions’ 2-1 FA Cup loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Asked about a report that the centre-forward was set to join the League One promotion chasers, Rowett replied: “I’ve heard other people talk about it at other clubs, which seems a bit bizarre.

“There is nothing, as far as I’m aware, in that story.”

Smith has made 21 Championship appearances, with six of those starts.

The former Fulham and QPR frontman has scored 21 goals in 102 matches for the Lions.
