Charlton face anxious wait to see if Jayden Stockley responds to treatment for hip issue

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

Charlton boss Johnnie Jackson has provided an update on the fitness of his front two Jayden Stockley and Conor Washington.

Stockley has picked up a hip problem and hasn’t featured since the defeat at Plymouth before Christmas. Washington missed last weekend’s FA Cup tie with Norwich due to a hamstring complaint. He came back into the side for the loss at Crewe in midweek but wasn’t involved at Cheltenham today.

Jackson said: “Jayden has had some treatment at the start of this week that we hope he responds to. It’s the type of treatment that you need to give a two-week window to see if he’s going to respond.

“The specialist and the medical team are really positive that it will have the desired outcome and he’ll be available to us. But I can’t hand on heart tell you he’s going to be back in a week or two but really hopeful that he is.

“Conor is back where he was before the Crewe game. He came out of Norwich with a little hamstring niggle that recovered in time for Wednesday but he was fatigued from that and feeling the same as he was on the build-up to the Norwich game. I couldn’t take a chance with him. He just wasn’t ready.

“We’re hoping it’s not any worse than it was before and with a clear week I’ll say there’s a good chance he’ll be ready for the weekend. I have to monitor that carefully, I can’t afford to lose another player for a long period of time in that position. You see what happens when I have all my forwards available to me. We don’t lose games. It’s disappointing when they’re not available for you.”
