Wimbledon heats up for the championships

Soaring temperatures brought smiles to the faces of thousands of fans this week as the Wimbledon Championships got under way at the All England Club.

New mum Serena Williams has looked just as formidable as before childbirth during the first week, and Roger Federer has started flawlessly in his bid for a ninth title this year.

After Andy Murray’s withdrawal, much of the British attention has turned to 21-year-old wildcard Katie Boulter, who won her first round match against Paraguay’s Veronica Cepede Royg 6-4 5-7 6-4.

She was due to play Japan’s number 18 seed Naomi Osaka on Thursday as the South London Press went to print.

Everyone at the South London Press thanks you for your continued support.

Former Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has encouraged everyone in the country who can afford to do so to buy a newspaper, and told the Downing Street press briefing:

“A FREE COUNTRY NEEDS A FREE PRESS, AND THE NEWSPAPERS OF OUR COUNTRY ARE UNDER SIGNIFICANT FINANCIAL PRESSURE”

If you can afford to do so, we would be so grateful if you can make a donation which will allow us to continue to bring stories to you, both in print and online. Or please make cheques payable to “MSI Media Limited” and send by post to South London Press, Unit 112, 160 Bromley Road, Catford, London SE6 2NZ
