Chelsea defender makes Charlton Athletic loan move

Charlton Athletic have completed the loan signing of Chelsea defender Juan Castillo.

The 22-year-old defender had spent the first half of the season on loan at Birmingham City but recently returned to his parent club.

Castillo has joined for the remainder of the campaign and is the Addicks’ second signing of the January transfer window.

He could make his debut in tomorrow’s home game against Fleetwood Town.

Charlton manager Johnnie Jackson told the South London Press: “He’s a left-back or attacking left wing-back. He gives us options. It is a natural bit of balance that side, which we wanted to look at in that position that we need a bit of competition for.

“He wants to get forward and is comfortable in possession. He found his game time a little bit limited at Birmingham for whatever reason. But he is an exciting young player.

“I think coming to us will be a different prospect. He’s hopefully going to be in a team that is on top in games.

“It’s having alternatives and an ability to rotate if need be. There are some areas we have got strength in depth and cover. It was an area wer felt we probably needed to add to.”
