Millwall boss on centre-back trialist and injury absentees

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Millwall boss Neil Harris is not sure if trialist Lazar Stojsavljevic will be part of the squad which travels to Portugal on Wednesday.

The left-sided centre-back, 20, who was on Woking’s books last season, played the opening 45 minutes in yesterday’s 5-0 win over Dartford.

The Lions were missing Sid Nelson and Shaun Hutchinson at Princes Park to deplete their centre-back options.

Byron Webster captained Millwall in the second half, his first action since suffering cruciate knee ligament damage last season.

When Harris was asked about Stojsavljevic, he replied: “He’s come in to work with the under-23s.

“There was no Hutch, Sid or George and no Mezza [James Meredith]. It was an opportunity to see Lazar. He did okay first half, we’ll just keep monitoring the situation.

“I’m delighted for Byron Webster to get 45 minutes – that was key for his confidence. It’s going to take him a while to get back up to match speed.

“Sav had a stiff back and pulled out of training yesterday so was not risked.

“Hutch did the first few days and then had a week where he has not joined the group, so this game was too soon for him. He’ll come to Portugal.

“Mezza, after the World Cup, needs time off.”
