Millwall boss gives fitness update on Scott Malone ahead of Cardiff City clash

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has provided an injury update on Scott Malone.

The left-sided defender was not part of the matchday squad for Tuesday night’s 3-0 loss at Fulham due to a hamstring niggle.

The Lions are at home to Cardiff City on Saturday.

Rowett told the South London Press: “He felt it in the Preston game at half-time, he felt a tightness. I pulled him out – he didn’t pull himself out of the game. I pulled him out to change formation. I thought it was sensible to bring someone off that possibly wouldn’t finish the game or finish it with the same level physically as he started it.

“The next day he goes for a scan and there’s a little bit of damage in there, but not a lot. A lot of these injuries, 15 or 20 years ago when I was playing, you’d just carry on because you didn’t scan everything. Now medically we’re a little more advanced and you perhaps make more decisions on a safer basis than you would have done.

“His was always going to be a seven to 10 or 14-days injury. We’ll see this morning. He has made quite good progress, we’ll see where is and whether he’s available.”
