Dulwich Hamlet fan sees three-years of fundraising pay off with friendly this weekend at Altona 93
Dulwich Hamlet fan Mishi Morath will see the results of three years of fundraising when the National League South new boys play Altona 93 in Hamburg on Sunday.
Morath’s Inter City 125 campaign has raised almost £8,000 to make the trip to Germany financially possible.
He visited Altona for a match in 2010.
“One of their fans was very friendly to me, and it grew from there,” said Morath. “I bought their fanzine, and it all snowballed.
“It’s been a long hard slog, from parties, quiz nights, sponsored walks and so much more. Despite all the trouble the club has been through last season, we continued to aim for our target of getting the team and management to Germany, and by hook or by crook, we have achieved it.”
Hamlet were formed in 1907 and this is a return of the 90th anniversary match of Hamlet’s first visit to the Adolf-Jager-Kampfbahn in 1925 – the legendary Edgar Kail hitting a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory.
Altona won 5-3 at Champion Hill three years ago to level the series.
Dulwich take on HFC Falke, who play in the seventh tier of German football. About 200 Hamlet fans are expected to make the trip for the Altona fixture, which has a noon kick-off.
Hamlet are wearing a special one-off kit for the tour, which has been auctioned for the Medins Sans Frontiers/Doctors Without Borders charity. They have also donated a specially-commissioned Jager Kail Cup, named after the two club’s legendary footballing heroes.
Croydon FC will host fellow Southern Counties East Football League side Tunbridge Wells at Croydon Sports Arena in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup on August 11. The winner will be away to Corinthian-Casuals FC.
The South Norwood-based club also have home advantage in the FA Vase, and face Little Common FC on September 1.
Croydon FC lost 4-0 in their first pre-season friendly against Bostik League side Chipstead – two divisions above the Trams.
New player-manager Craig Davies hit the crossbar. Croydon’s next friendly is against Forest Hill Park at Coney Hall Recreation Ground in West Wickham (3pm).
