Millwall expecting Blackburn hot shot Ben Brereton Diaz to play against them

Millwall will prepare for Ben Brereton Diaz to be fit to play for Blackburn Rovers on Saturday despite the fact he hobbled off in their 0-0 draw against West Bromwich Albion on Monday evening.

The Chile international has scored 20 goals for Tony Mowbray’s side this season including the leveller at The Den back in August.

Lions manager Gary Rowett said: “I think it was just a kick, I think they spoke in the presser and said they were hopeful that he would be fit, so we will prepare like he will be fit.

“They’ve got other good players as well. You saw that when they brought on players such as [Tyrese] Dolan and [Reda] Khadra. I’ve got no doubt that whatever team we face will be a very, very good side.

“Our challenge is going to be recovering and going again.”

The Lions boss was asked if the play-offs are still a target.

Rowett responded: “The way the injuries have gone, the way the season has gone, I’ll be really honest I just want to try and enjoy the last bit of the season and see where it takes us.

“[I want to] get a little bit more consistency to our game, give people like Tyler Burey, young Zak [Lovelace] was on the bench. If I would’ve had an opportunity to get him on then I would’ve done had we not have had injuries.

“That’s really the key for us. At this stage of the season to be 23 points off the bottom three is a massive achievement for the players and those six points depend on whether we can get that consistency in the team.”
