How many more points do Fulham need to seal promotion? We crunch the numbers

Fulham may need just 22 points from their remaining 16 league matches to clinch their return to the Premier League.

The average points return – based on the standings for the past decade – needed to secure at least second place in the Championship works out at 86.

Fulham are unbeaten in seven fixtures since a 1-0 reverse to Sheffield United at Craven Cottage – winning six of those – and top the table with 64 points.

Some bookmakers already have them 1/100 on to get promoted.

The lowest total to finish as runners-up in the last 10 years was 78 points in 2012-13 while the highest came in the 2015-16 season (90).

Fulham have scored 24 goals in their last seven Championship fixtures but had to settle for a solitary Aleksandar Mitrovic header in last weekend’s 1-0 victory at Hull City.

The Serbian striker equalled Ivan Toney’s record of 31 goals in a Championship season – only set in the previous campaign with Brentford. Prior to that the most prolific had been Crystal Palace’s Glenn Murray (30) in 2012-13.

All of Mitrovic’s goals have been scored inside the penalty area.

“The team is supporting his game, our philosophy helps him and he is understanding everything I’m asking him,” said manager Marco Silva. “It’s not just he’s in the right spots to score, it’s the way he links our game, the way he starts the press, he helps his team-mates as well.”

The Whites are at home to Huddersfield Town tomorrow. They won 5-1 in the reverse fixture in early August.

Fulham have continued their dominance of landing the PFA Vertu Motors Fans’ Player of the Month award – Harry Wilson the latest recipient.

Mitrovic has already won the accolade three times this season.

Wilson produced six goal contributions in the 7-0 win at Reading in January.

QPR’s Chris Willock and Mitrovic were also nominated.
