‘Decisive moments in the game’ – Charlton chief left bemoaning lack of clinical touch against MK
Johnnie Jackson felt his Charlton Athletic side paid the price for not converting a couple of big chances in last night’s 2-0 defeat to Milton Keynes in SE7.
Tennai Watson and Kaine Kesler-Hayden scored in each half for the League One promotion chasers.
But Charlton had opportunities before both goals.
Adam Matthews’ cross evaded Mason Burstow – without any other home player being on hand to take a simple tap in. And Burstow also fired over early in the second period from Albie Morgan’s right-wing cross. The ball did come at pace and sit up a bit off the turf moments before he struck it.
“Decisive moments in the game,” said Jackson, when asked about Charlton posting a blank for the second successive fixture.
“They [MK] are a team that creates loads – and tonight they haven’t created too much. I certainly think we more than matched them in that department, in terms of opportunities.
“That [Burstow’s second-half effort] is a big moment in the game, to get to 1-1. They score quite shortly after that – 2-0. They are game-changing moments. There’s one in the first half which fizzes across the face of goal – we should be in a position to take that.
“Those moments aren’t falling for us. Are we being clinical in those moments as well? No – we have to look at ourselves. They’ve been clinical and we haven’t, that was the difference.”
