Derby wide man Byrne pays tribute to Millwall performance as Lions win 2-1 at Pride Park

Nathan Byrne reckoned that Millwall deserve credit for their performance in their 2-1 victory against Derby County.

Jed Wallace opened the scoring in the opening minute after his free-kick went all the way in past Ryan Allsop.

Mason Bennett’s pace and power wasn’t dealt with by the Rams, he found Jed Wallace, it eventually found Tyler Burey who cannoned it into the roof of the net.

Jake Cooper’s own goal with two minutes remaining gave Derby hope but the Lions held on for all three points.

Byrne told Rams TV: “We know we weren’t good enough but I think we probably had the same amount of chances they did, but they took theirs and we didn’t.

“You have got to give Millwall credit for the way they set up. They stopped us playing our normal game but we have always got to find a way.

“In the first half, unfortunately we didn’t. it was better in the second half but when a team has a 2-0 lead, it’s easier for them to sit in and soak up the pressure.

“We are always going to give it a go but it’s not enough for the situation we are in. We still believe and everyone is still positive in there.“
