‘They definitely helped us’ – Millwall midfielder praises fans after 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough

Billy Mitchell reckons the Millwall fans give their players that extra boost when they’re tired – and added he “absolutely loved” playing in front of a near sold-out Den at the weekend.

The Lions are seven unbeaten after their 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

When asked by the South London Press if he relishes playing in front of a full Den crowd, Mitchell said: “Yes, big time. The team has been doing alright at the moment but for me and the other boys, there is nothing better than playing in front of a sold out Den.

“They definitely helped us at times today and me personally because I was absolutely knackered.

“I’ve played a lot of games back-to-back, I absolutely loved it [the sold at Den].

“That was your typical Championship game – two athletic teams, two good sides with a decent amount of quality and fairly matched.

“We’re obviously close to each other in the table and all in all a draw was probably a fair result.

“Recently, there’s probably not been too much in the matches, but the fact we’ve not conceded has meant that we’ve been able to go on and win games with a simple set-piece.

“If you can’t win, then at least take a point and don’t get beat. That’s what we’ve done well.”

The Lions have kept seven clean sheets in their last 10 Championship matches – including four in a row.

Mitchell said: “We’ve got good options in that department [defence] of the pitch, they’re all absolute units.

“Not only have they been really good defensively, but you’ve seen Coops has scored a few goals for us at the other end as well.

“Perhaps we’re peaking at the right time coming into the latter stages of the season. We’ve just solidified ourselves in terms of not conceding as many goals.”
