‘Sums up our season’ – Dons head coach reacts to duo being ruled out for rest of League One campaign
AFC Wimbledon head coach Mark Robinson said that the loss of Aaron Pressley and Cheye Alexander for the rest of the League One campaign “sums up our season.”
Brentford loanee Pressley, who missed 12 games after picking up a hamstring problem in mid-December, has suffered a rei-njury.
Right-back Alexander picked up a groin injury which forced him off after 26 minutes in the 2-0 loss to Lincoln City last Saturday.
The 27-year-old had featured 25 times this season for the Dons in all competitions.
“It’s really disappointing,” Robinson told the South London Press.
“It sums up our season a little bit, really, in terms of the adversity that we have had to overcome.
“It’s just another challenge that we need to overcome. It’s disappointing for the players – I know they both would have loved to play their part.
“We just have to move on and get on with it.”
Pressley, 20, managed 27 appearances and scored four goals for the South Londoners on his season-long loan from the Bees.
The Scotland U21 international only featured for 32 minutes upon his return before having his time at the club cut short.
When asked if he agreed that AFC Wimbledon did not get to see the full potential of the forward, Robinson added: “Definitely, because he was starting to show signs.
“When Ollie [Palmer] left, that was going to be his opportunity. We were always going to need to bring someone else in as well, but it was going to be his opportunity to take over, and he never got that chance.
“There were good signs along the way – he showed that he was capable of performances and linking away.
“It’s been a big loss to us not having him.”
Robinson is hopeful that Birmingham loanee Sam Cosgrove will return to training on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s clash away at Cheltenham.
