Rock on! Charlton boss happy to produce win as Thomas Sandgaard jets in + discusses recruitment plans

Johnnie Jackson was pleased that Charlton Athletic owner Thomas Sandgaard got to witness their 2-0 win over Burton Albion today in person.

The US-based Dane flew into the UK earlier this week and is expected to stay for a couple of weeks.

“We’re in regular contact anyway – on the phone, over Zoom and stuff like that,” said Jackson, when asked if Sandgaard’s presence allowed summer recruitment plans to kick up a notch.

“Those discussions are already well underway. We’ve got a clear idea how we want to proceed and take the club forward.

“It’s brilliant he’s able to get across to the games as often as he does because we don’t lose many, as well. It’s always pleasing that we could get the victory when he is over.”

Charlton have a number of their squad out of contract at the end of July.

Conor Washington, one of those who is due to be a free agent, scored the opening goal against the Brewers.

The Northern Ireland international has 10 league goals this season.

And Jackson admitted there is still time for any of his squad to prove they should be here next season.

“There is a lot of football to be played,” he said. “You always need to be flexible and have an open mind in football. There is still eight games and 24 points to go for. That’s a big chunk.

“Someone can still make a really big impression – score goals, create goals or keep goals out. Lots to be done yet. We’re always watching – they have to keep going until the last minute.

“I’m fond of them as a group. They’ve always given me everything.”

“With every win confidence will come back and grow – hopefully we can continue this momentum now. I want to end the season well and catch as many teams above us as we can to finish on a positive note.
