Rugby: King’s College Hospital reach final of Kent Salver

King’s College Hospital booked their place in the final of the Kent Salver with a convincing win over Footscray in a buzzing Friday night game.

The men from Turney Road overcame a shaky start, going three tries down due to a lack of discipline – and a missed scoring opportunity from Andre Harriman, who unfortunately stepped over the dead ball line in the act of scoring what would have been a brilliant try.

But King’s settled into their attacking shape in the second half, creating and identifying space and threatening the wide channel through smart offloads. King’s ran in six tries including from David Nash (2) and Harriman, making amends for the earlier error.

Head coach Jeff McGann said: “I’m really proud of that performance from what is a really young King’s team. We faced a lot of pressure in the scrum but the lineout functioned well and we showed a lot of dog to come through a tough semi final.

“This season has been a tough one as we all return to the game after the pandemic but I’ve been so impressed with how hard the boys have worked for each other and the club. The future is bright – the future is King’s. And we’ve got a final to prepare for.”
