Bromley slip further behind in National League play-off battle

Bromley lost more ground on the National League play-off chasers after a 2-1 defeat at Yeovil Town on Tuesday night.

Andy Woodman’s side are winless in seven matches, banking just three points from a possible 21.

Former Millwall striker George Alexander had cancelled out Lawson D’Ath’s opener for the Glovers. But Thomas Knowles put them back in front in the 72nd minute.

The result leaves Bromley five points behind seventh-placed Boreham Wood.

Woodman said: “I can’t see how we can go from Saturday – where I thought we played well – to tonight, miles off it. I can’t quite put my finger on it

“We just couldn’t cope with the pace of their frontmen. Then we weren’t sure whether to go tight or to drop and we did neither. That caused us problem after problem.

“We’ve had some good news with Bushy [Chris Bush] and Billy [Bingham] – both of their wives have had babies today – but that forced us to make changes. But we’ve still got enough in that team to play better.

“There were moments in the game where we should have maybe gone 2-1 up [Alexander having another chance] but I’m not going to start dressing it up that we should’ve won it.

“I would say that is probably the worst performance since I’ve been here.

“Ellery [Balcombe] was excellent again and made some really good saves.

“I feel sorry for the kid because he is playing really well and let two in tonight.

“As a team we have got to dust ourselves down and get back to our basics. I thought we had done that after Saturday [a 0-0 draw against Wrexham].”
