Swans boss Martin hails ‘courage’ of his players as they end Millwall’s lengthy unbeaten home record

Russell Martin reckons Swansea City’s victory over Millwall was “equally as brilliant” as their 4-0 win against arch-rivals Cardiff City on the weekend.

Joel Piroe’s strike just after half-time condemned the Lions to a first home defeat since January when they lost 1-0 against Nottingham Forest.

Martin said: “That’s equally as brilliant, in a different way, because of the emotional and physical energy expended on Saturday. To back it up with a performance like that against a team who are in such great form.

“[They are a] really well organised team and I have a lot of respect for Gary and his staff. To play that way tonight was not easy and for them to do what they did, I really enjoyed it.

“I’m grateful for the courage the players showed, the intensity they showed and I’m feeling grateful to them and happy for them.

“Some really beautiful football at times against teams that have tried really hard to press and stop us, the amount of courage the guys have shown in the last two games, especially away from home since Sheffield United.

“We took a lot of criticism and a lot of it was spot on. It was a difficult day for the guys to bounce back like they have is testament to their character but most of all because of how brave they are and willing they are to run and show for each other.”
