Dons boss Bowen reacts to potential early full-time whistle in 1-1 draw with Milton Keynes

AFC Wimbledon boss Mark Bowen has provided his reaction after referee James Oldham blew for full time as his side looked set for one final attack at goal in their 1-1 draw with Milton Keynes.

Wimbledon opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Alex Woodyard’s shot from the edge of the box took a deflection en route to goal and wrongfooted Jamie Cumming.

But the visitors found an equaliser in the 80th minute through on-loan Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott, who volleyed home Dean Lewington’s cross to deny Wimbledon their first win in League One since December 7.

The Dons were on the attack and searching for the winner in added time, with Sam Cosgrove and Ethan Chislett working their way down the right-hand side. However, as Cosgrove set his eyes on goal and looked to pull the trigger or play through one of the players in support, Oldham blew the full-time whistle at Plough Lane.

“I have had that all my career – referees blowing up early,” Bowen told the South London Press.

“I was always told that if he puts up seven minutes, that was seven minutes minimum, and he was blowing up on six minutes fifty seconds.

“He [the referee] said: ‘It’s my watch that counts.’ Well, it’s not your watch that counts. If it is 90 minutes plus seven, and if our coaches’ watch says it is 96:50, it is 96:50.

“I was more bitter in the week against Charlton when I thought we should have had two penalties.

“Looking at that league table now, and I think: ‘We’re three points behind the teams in front, so we have got a straight race with those teams above us over four games to make up three points.’

“I am really positive.”
