Firefighters tackle blaze at flat in Tooting
Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters tackled a flat fire in Flowersmead in Tooting on Tuesday.
Half of a four-bedroom flat on the ground floor of the building was damaged by fire.
Firefighters assisted a man from the flat who was taken to hospital.
The brigade’s control officers took four calls to the fire and were able to use their 999Eye camera to live stream the fire from a smart phone to screens in the Control room, allowing for greater visibility of the incident.
When a 999 call is received by the brigade, the caller may be asked if they would like to provide a live video stream of the scene using their smart phone.
The control officer will send a text message with a secure, one-time-use link that opens a live stream direct from the phone to the Control room.
The 999Eye provides better situational awareness and allows the brigade to offer the best advice based on live footage.
The brigade was called at 1230pm and the fire was under control by 1.20pm.
Fire crews from Norbury, Clapham, Battersea and West Norwood fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
