Play-offs feel long way off

Dulwich Hamlet’s play-off hopes took another huge dent at the weekend with defeat at Champion Hill.

This time, two goals in three minutes midway through the second half from Zac McEachran and Joe Iaciofano gave visiting Oxford City a 2-0 win on Saturday.

That makes it seven without a win for Gavin Rose’s men. With just three games left after the Easter visit to Ebbsfleet United today and Monday’s clash with Tonbridge Angels back on home turf, Hamlet have to rediscover their mojo now or never.

They are down in 10th in National League South, a point behind seventh-placed St Albans City – who occupy the last play-off place.

Meanwhile, there were strong words from Bromley boss Andy Woodman as his side were also on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline on home soil.

Paul McCallum and Junior Morais scored second-half goals for promotion-chasing Dagenham & Redbridge.

The FA Trophy finalists are still looking for their first league win since the 1-0 victory over Notts County at the end of January.

Their mid-table position leaves them nine points off the final play-off slot, and makes their trip to Wembley in May even more of a distraction.

Woodman said: “This time last week we were all celebrating a great occasion [the FA Trophy semi-final win against York City] but I told the lads: ‘You’ve still got nine games to play [in the league] and you’ve got to show a little bit more than you’ve been showing there’. It was like a pre-season friendly at one point.”

Bromley are at Eastleigh for the Good Friday programme of National League fixtures and at home to Maidenhead United on Monday.

In National League South, Welling United stay bottom on 30 points after a 4-2 home defeat to Ebbsfleet. Their Easter features a Friday trip to Eastbourne followed by a visit from Dorking Wanderers on Monday.

Elsewhere, Tooting & Mitcham United were beaten 1-0 at home by Bedfont Sports in the Isthmian South Central League.

It was their fourth defeat in a row at the Imperial Sports Ground without scoring and they remain without a win on home soil in all competitions in 2022.

They will aim to end that jinx on Easter Monday against Staines Town. Before then, they travel to Hanwell Town tomorrow (Saturday).

In the Southern Counties East League Premier Division, Fisher drew 2-2 at Bearsted. Manny Shoderu’s 50th minute strike cancelled out a goal from Dan Melvin and Jacob Catonia put the south Londoners ahead on the hour. But the hosts levelled it 10 minutes from time through Joel Wakefield.

Fisher are at home to Holmsdale on Saturday and travel to Tower Hamlets on Monday.
