Millwall and Charlton players recognised in community award
Millwall’s Billy Mitchell and Charlton’s Ryan Inniss have been recognised for exceptional work in their local communities by being named divisional winners of the 2022 ‘PFA Player in the Community Award’.
The award is given to the players going above and beyond the call of duty with community work.
Mitchell, 21 is passionate about giving back to the community he grew up in, according to the PFA shortlist, and has experienced first-hand the benefits of Millwall’s community work.
He said: “Becoming heavily involved in work with Millwall Community Trust is a no-brainer for me.
“As someone who grew up in the area and benefited from MCT’s outstanding work, giving something back only seems right.”
Inniss, the League One award winner, has demonstrated a commitment to giving back to the community.
Most notably, the 26-year-old defender spent every Friday evening for two months visiting the club’s
PL Kicks sessions which aim to help young people make positive life choices.
He has taken part in mental health awareness and book reading day schemes as well as Q & As with fans.
Innis said of his contribution to Charlton’s community trust: “Helping out with the trust, I love doing it to improve things, but it also helps me.
“I feel like a better person. So, there’s a little bit of a selfish side to it, but I know I’m a good person.
“I’ve done things in the past that I shouldn’t have done. I just want to give a little bit back.”
The overall winner will be announced at the EFL Awards on Sunday, April 24.
