Classy Fulham seal promotion to the Premier League – as they instantly bounce back once again

Fulham have been promoted to the Premier League following their 3-0 victory against Preston North End at Craven Cottage on Tuesday evening.

The Whites knew a win would secure their instant return to England’s top flight – just one year after they were relegated.

A brace from Aleksandar Mitrovic and Fabio Carvalho’s strike in the first half was enough to see off a weary Lilywhites.

Fulham have been far superior to any other side in the division this season and Mitrovic’s brace meant he has now hit 40 goals for the season – a remarkable goal scoring season for the Serbian striker.

Preston boss Ryan Lowe said his side were “outclassed” by their ruthless opponents who are on 86 points after 43 matches.

That win at home takes the Whites back to the top of the Championship home form table – one point above South London club Millwall – with 43 points.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about Fulham’s campaign to date is they have picked up exactly the same number of points away as they have at home – 43 – which shows their quality and ability everywhere they go.

With four matches remaining, the Whites will be looking to score more than 100 goals for the season – they are currently on 98.

Scoring five, six and seven has not been a problem for Fulham who have routinely dispatched teams and put them to the sword.

Following their promotion, Marco Silva hailed his side: “It is important for all at the club, not just me. I knew why I came here to Fulham and what the club wanted from me.

“We knew that would be difficult, but the players have grown since the beginning of the season and we have that desire. We have been so dominant for most of the season.

“Nothing is guaranteed in football and you have to keep working hard and the challenge is hard for next season. But we have to be positive and show full desire and ambition.

“It is difficult but it is a fantastic challenge. Our boys have been brilliant in my first season in the Championship.”
