Arsenal loanee’s season set to be over unless Millwall can make Championship play-offs

Daniel Ballard is set to be ruled out for the next two matches after suffering a quad injury – and that could mean the on-loan Arsenal defender’s season is over.

The Northern Ireland international has spent the campaign with Millwall.

But the only way Ballard is set to get more club football in the 2021-22 campaign is if the Lions reach the Championship play-offs.

“He felt his quad after the [Birmingham] game,” said Millwall manager Gary Rowett. “The Sunday morning he came in for treatment. He had a scan [on Monday] and there is some damage in there. It is hard to tell exactly what extent but there is some damage, so of course that puts him pretty much as a doubt for Saturday and the Saturday after.

“It is a bit of a blow but we’re at the stage where we can’t really dwell too long, we are where we are.

“Scottie Malone is the same. Unless our games go beyond May 8 then I think Scottie is out.

“Jed [Wallace] has still got a chance for the weekend but hasn’t trained yet.”
