George Dobson wins Charlton Athletic’s Player of the Year award

George Dobson collected Charlton Athletic’s Player of the Year award last night – with the former Sunderland midfielder the runaway winner of the accolade.

The trophy is decided by supporters and the 24-year-old collected more than 77 per cent of the votes.

Dobson was signed at the start of July after his contract at the Black Cats was terminated.

The defensive midfielder, who impressed on loan at AFC Wimbledon in the second half of last season, made 43 appearances in all competitions for Charlton and scored an excellent winner at Rotherham United at the start of April.

Sean Clare finished in second place with Conor Washington in third.

Striker Daniel Kanu was named Valley Gold Young Player of the Year with goalkeeper Eartha Cumings winning Women’s Player of the Year.
