Womble kickstarts cargo bike delivery scheme for businesses
One of the Wombles was on hand in Wimbledon town centre to give a push to a new business bike delivery scheme.
The cargo bike scheme aims to show businesses the ease of switching to cargo bikes for their deliveries, ultimately reducing carbon footprints, local air pollution, and saving costs.
The trial scheme is provided by XeroE, is available to book online, with a set number of pre-paid hours available for businesses to use.
Steve Evans, CEO, XeroE, said “It’s great to be able to provide the community and businesses of Wimbledon with the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint and share in our mission to improve the quality of urban air through our emission-free deliveries.”
Chris Lee, Merton council’s director of environment and regeneration said: “We’re committed to reducing air pollution for the good of everyone who lives, works and travels in the borough. In our most recent Air Quality Action Plan, it was reported that approximately 60 per cent of nitrogen dioxide emissions in Merton come from road traffic.
“We believe the best way to eliminate these emissions is to make less polluting options more convenient.
“Now, we’re delighted to join with our partners to offer businesses in Wimbledon an easy way to cut their emissions through the new cargo bike scheme. I would encourage all businesses in the area, big or small, to do their bit for all of our lungs, and take advantage of this fantastic offer.”
