‘Keen to get him sorted’ – New Dons boss hoping key man will re-sign
New AFC Wimbledon manager Johnnie Jackson has revealed that he held talks with Alex Woodyard yesterday and emphasised he wants the midfielder to sign a new contract.
Woodyard is out of contract this summer and has been a mainstay of the Dons side.
Other players in that same situation include Zach Robinson, Dan Csoka and Nesta Guinness-Walker.
Jackson was appointed as Dons boss on Monday afternoon, signing a two-year contract.
Jackson told the South London Press: “Discussion with those guys were already underway before I came in. Now I will, or I am, part of that process.
“I had a good chat with Alex Woodyard today (Tuesday). Obviously keen to get him sorted. I think having that experience is something we perhaps lacked a little bit of last season.
“I want to keep the experienced ones around and add a little bit of experience here and there, where we can. Just to get the right balance.
“We’ve got some exciting young players but they just need a little bit of help as well, just bringing in a bit of experience and know-how as well.”
