Patrick Vieira says summer transfer window is massively important for Crystal Palace

Patrick Vieira belives this upcoming summer transfer window is “massively important” for Crystal Palace.

A significant part in the Eagles securing their 10th consecutive season in the Premier League has been the player recruitment from last summer.

The Eagles spent more than £60million to sign Marc Guehi, Joachim Andersen, Michael Olise, Will Hughes and Odsonne Edouard to bolster Vieira’s squad.

Palace finished 12th in the Premier league after recording a final day 1-0 win against Manchester United.

“It is always important to have the right balance between young players and experience,” said Vieira of the work that needs to be done during the summer transfer window.

“Between how many players [who might] come in and those leaving, those players have given a lot to this football club, so that is why this window will be massively important for us.

“The fewer mistakes we will make, the better it will be for us.”

In the Frenchman’s first season in charge at Selhurst Park, the Eagles have reached the semi-final of the FA Cup, recorded their second-highest Premier League points total and the fewest top-flight defeats in a season.

“It’s all about making sure that, as a manager, and with my staff, we keep maintaining the level of the quality of the players,” said Vieira when asked what needed to be done to ensure Palace take another step forward next season.

“With the way that we work, expecting them to improve, then trying to bring in those couple of players who will help us to be stronger as a team.

“We have to keep challenging ourselves, and we want to be ambitious.

“After, we have to perform to a level that will allow ourselves to be in a good part of the table.”
