Emily doing her best to keep on track for Miss England title

By Davina Hyde

A woman is cycling her way through the first heats of Miss England, after embarking on a charity bike ride to raise funds for a young suicide prevention charity.

Emily Cossey, 24, who lives on the Imperial Wharf Development in Chelsea, hopes people will support and vote for her at the Miss London finals being held at the Hotel Rafayel in London on June 5.

More than 100 girls initially entered and 14 have reached the final, which consists of five rounds, fundraising, public vote round on the app, eco dress (using something prewarn/recycled) catwalk and interview, introducing London video, and a bare face photo round where she has to post a picture of herself wearing no make-up.

If Emily wins Miss London, she gains a fast track place in the Miss England National final, which is sponsored by Dentakay Dental Clinic, and if successful and wins the title, she would represent England at the 71st Miss World.

Emily has chosen to cycle from one end of the Central line to the other (Ruislip to Epping) to raise money for the Papyrus charity to raise awareness to prevent young suicide, which is the number one killer in under 35-year-olds in the UK.

She plans to stop at each station to try and raise awareness for young suicide.

The 24-year-old, who works as a pre-sales consultant engineer for a cyber security company in London, and holds a First Class masters degree, said: “I am hoping to become Miss London and to make it through all the way to the finals of the Miss England competition.

“This would give me the opportunity to use my hard-working ethos and platform to become a role model, inspiring women, especially in male-dominated industries, to embrace their femininity, to be confident in themselves and go for what they want.”

Angie Beasley, director, Miss England Limited, said: “The ethos of Miss England and Miss World is beauty with a purpose.

“Our contestants have raised thousands of pounds every year for good causes. Even during the pandemic the Miss England 2021 finalists raised more than £44,000 proving they are so much more than just a pretty face.”

Miss London is sponsored by Cetuem London , a natural skincare brand.  Emily has already entered the makeup free round and posted her bare face image on social media.

Hazel Russell, Head of fundraising at the charity PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide, said: “We would like to say a big thank you to Emily and all those who are supporting her fundraising event which will help us to continue giving hope to young people who are struggling with life.

“Generous donations will help to pay for potentially life-saving calls, texts and emails to our confidential HOPELINEUK service, which offers support and advice to young people and anyone who is worried about a young person who may be having thoughts of suicide.”
