Crystal Palace defender ‘inks’ new contract as veteran midfielder also reportedly agrees new terms

James Tomkins has reportedly signed a new one-year contract at Crystal Palace.

The Sun claim that the centre-back, 33, has put pen to paper with the SE25 outfit. He joined the Eagles from West Ham United in 2016 in a £10million deal.

The paper also add that James McArthur has agreed to stay on at Palace. It had been mentioned previously that the experienced Scot was set to extend his stay.

The former Wigan Athletic midfielder, 34, made 21 appearances last season as injury disrupted his campaign. In total he has featured 249 times for the Eagles and scored 19 goals.

Both McArthur and Tomkins would have been free agents this summer.

Palace want to add another central defender to their squad after Martin Kelly did not see his terms renewed and also doubts over Cheikhou Kouyate’s future. The 32-year-old Senegal international is thought to be looking at a move away from South London with his Eagles terms expiring at the end of this month.
