Winston Rodney of Burning Spear to play at Brixton

A two-time Grammy Award winner and one of the world’s most renowned reggae superstars will play in Brixton later this year.

Winston Rodney, of Burning Spear, comes out of retirement to perform with the band in his first UK performance for more than 20 years.

The London event will take place at the O2 Academy Brixton on Sunday, August 14.

The concert will also feature Horace ‘Sleepy’ Andy, best known as the voice of the band Massive Attack and Studio One veteran, alongside Johnny ‘African Roots’ Clarke, a 1970s lovers and roots icon.

The band has been making music since 1969, and have been nominated for 12 Grammys, winning one in 2000 and another in 2009, both for Best Reggae album.

Mr Rodney said he was happily retired but his fans asked him to do an “appreciation tour” and he agreed. Burning Spear said the concert will make history.

The band said: “I man will be there, for real I man will be there. It’s been a while, yes, a long time, but I man will be there, all roads lead to the O2 Academy Brixton, people be there.” Tickets available from ticketmaster.co.uk
