Michael Beale: QPR job felt like a different job opportunity
Michael Beale reckons the opportunity to become the new QPR manager felt “different” than other propositions in the past.
The former Aston Villa coach grew up in the capital.
Beale replaces Mark Warburton who left the R’s at the end of last season.
Beale, who had contact from Charlton Athletic as they searched for Johnnie Jackson’s successor, said: “I’m hugely excited by the opportunity, its going to be a challenge but so is every football club in the Championship.
“You have to fight for every single point and we’re no different to anybody else. In the last 12-18months, there has been a lot of opportunity and this one just felt different straight from the off.
“I know a little bit about the club, being a London boy. It’s nice to be coming home after so long. Each team is very unique and we have a unique squad here.
“I need to get the best out of them with the management team here to get a really competitive QPR team on the pitch.
“That’s what I’m aiming to do but give us some time and let’s get started. Aston Villa have some very talented young players so do the others that I have worked with.
“It’s important we have players here at QPR that we invest in our future. QPR’s not going to be a holding ground for players from other teams to develop. But we do want to use the loan market if and when needed. The two transfers we have done already are for boys that have been at big, big clubs and are at the right place to kick on here.
“The first two parts of the season was extremely positive [last year]. The team impressed themselves and became a real underdog and dark horse to make the play-offs.
“Unfortunately, Covid and injuries impacted the second half of the season, without being directly involved in that. The last 16 games, there was only one team that picked up less points than us – that was Barnsley, who went down.
“There are no massive aims looking forward right now, until we start working, but what is important is to fight for every single point, like every other team.”
